LARES TREK 2D/1N
A beautiful traditional town, colorful, and full of breath-taking landscapes can be found in the Valley of Lares. Lagoons appear suddenly from behind giant mountains capped by glaciers and llamas and alpacas graze the surrounding hills.
The route takes you through local native communities and farmsteads and provides a unique experience and introduction into authentic Peruvian culture.
DAY BY DAY ITINERARY
DAY 1 - CUSCO, QUISHUARANI TO CUNCANI
The road that leads to Lares and crosses the Amparaes pass at 4470m is a phenomenal drive which winds through arid landscapes, occasional rivers run across the road and the mountain views are breathtaking.
Our final destination is the beautiful traditional village of Quishuarani, (3824 masl / 12545.93 ft.) colorful, and full of breath-taking landscapes.
You will start hiking from here, gradually ascending to our first mountain pass Hualcacasa (4,400 m/14,440 ft), about 3-4 hours after reaching this pass you will take a break to enjoy the views of the lagoons that appear suddenly from behind giant mountains capped by glaciers and llamas and alpacas graze the surrounding hills.
Then you will descend to Cuncani Village. Where you can jump in our vehicle to drive for few Kilometers down to Lares Hot Springs, our campsite for tonight.
If you love hiking you can continue walking down to Lares Hot Springs.
DAY 2 - CUNCANI TO OLLANTAYTAMBO
We will drive for about 30 minutes to the starting point of the hike of today.
We follow the path next to farming areas that will take us towards the pass. The ascent is challenging. We will have some hours of demanding but rewarding uphill, passing through incredible landscapes punctuated by high altitude lagoons.
On reaching the summit stunning views , followed by a descent that will be most agreeable after such a long climb.
From here the walk becomes easier down. We will feel the climate changing, becoming warmer and more alive, with more variety in vegetation as hummingbirds accompany us on our journey. After a few short hours we will meet our private transportation that will take us to Ollantaytambo.
We did a 5 days trip in the sacred valley and to Machu Picchu with Quechua trecks, and thanks to Zac and Mayra we had the most amazing time. Right from the start, Mayra made arranging the trip very easy and efficient, she tailored the itinerary to our needs and wishes, and made sure it provided a wonderful experience given the short time we had. The quality of hotels and restaurants selected, meals provided and transportation were excellent. And of course, it would not have been the same if it wasn’t for Zac, the best tour guide. Zac is extremely caring, knowledgeable and funny. Travelling with him is like travelling with a friend rather than a tour guide, and he takes the most amazing photos as well :) thank you Mayra, Zac and the Quechua treks team for this amazing trip:)
