SACRED VALLEY & LOCAL FARMFISH
After much cultural and historical appreciation, today is all about biking! We drive to Urubamba in the Sacred Valley in our private transport where we will meet up with our quad bikes for the day. Setting off immediately we crank up the engines and climb a ravine that descends from the snowy peak of Chicon. On our way we will stop off at a local ‘ piscigranja’ a fish farm. Trout is farmed here and we will learn about the workings
of the farm and choose our own fish, for lunch! Then it’s back on our bikes and onwards
and upwards until we eventually reach our destination for lunch. A beautifully set table
will have been prepared for us with various salads, locally grown corn, native potato
chips and our freshly cooked trout that we selected en-route. Fed and watered, it’ s back down the valley to Urubamba when after our day of fun and frolics we head back to the hotel in our private transport.
MARAS & MORAY
We depart from Urubamba to the village of Maras located 3,300 meters above sea level passing through the Tiobamba Sanctuary a colonial church with typical religious architecture.
You will get to visit the salt pans of Maras formed by 3000 small salt pans with an average area of 5 m2. During draught these salt pans are filled with salty water which originates from a natural water spring located above them. When the water evaporates the salt crystalizes and when the salt reaches 10 cm height from ground level it’s removed.
The archeological site of Moray is 7 km east from this community at 3,500 above sea level. It’s a type of greenhouse or an agricultural research centre very advance for its period. The tour is finished at this point and we start returning to our premises in Urubamba.
