BORN FROM A PERSONAL JOURNEY

In 1998, at 15 years old, Mayra traveled to Cusco for the first time and fell in love with its mountains, its people, and its energy. What began as a life-changing trip slowly became a calling.

In 2003, at 20, pregnant and after graduating as a professional tour guide, she returned to Cusco with a clear purpose: to build her path in the region that had inspired her and to raise her daughter there. At a time when very few women worked as high-altitude guides, she developed her career as one of the few female trekking guides in the field. She led routes across the Andes and later expanded her experience guiding expeditions in the Amazon rainforest, always working closely with the local communities she had come to know and respect.

Over the years, her experience, relationships, and commitment to responsible tourism shaped the foundation of what would later become Quechua Treks. In 2013, at 28, she formally established the company and began leading her own groups under its name, creating experiences rooted in authenticity, respect for culture, and environmental responsibility.

Today, Quechua Treks remains fully owned and led by Mayra, who holds the company’s beneficial ownership and maintains full decision-making authority over its strategic, financial, and operational direction. At the same time, nothing would have been possible without the support of the family and team that has grown alongside Quechua Treks over the years, becoming an essential part of its journey and impact.
