INCA TRAIL
CHINCHERO- URQUILLOS
(Full-day)
Our morning begins in the weaving town of Chinchero, a perfect combination of threads, terraces, women with braided hair and a beautiful plaza with a rustic church. We will be following an ancient Incan trail that goes to a campesinos small village called Urquillos in the Sacred Valley below.
Chinchero is a small town half an hour from Cusco and is the home of Paulino's family, who is going to show us the complex process of how to weave with a loom and how to use local plants and minerals to clean and dye the wool. After a hot coca tea in Paulino's home we have the option to visit the church (entrance required) or to start the hike to Urquillos.
The walk is basically all downhill with a well paved rock beginning, characteristic of an Inca trail. Once we turn left the views will amaze because of the outstanding scenery of the sacred valley and the snow capped mountains before us.
We will find a perfect place to take a break and enjoy our snacks (please let us know if you want to try our delicious box lunch).
The further down we go the more populated the land becomes with small tile roofed houses and corn fields. The walk finishes at the main square of Urquillos town where our private transportation will be waiting for us to take us back to our hotel.
Hiking time: 4 Hrs
Altitude range: 3700-2900
Meal: Box lunch
