WEAVING WORKSHOP

NATURAL DYE
WORKSHOP
WEAVING WORKSHOP
We’ll pick you up from your hotel in the morning and head out through the stunning Sacred Valley to the highland community of Patacancha, where our artisan friends are ready to welcome you. For generations, they’ve been weaving colorful textiles using traditional backstrap looms — working with alpaca wool and natural dyes made from local plants, roots, and minerals found right here in the Andes.
During this full-day, hands-on workshop, you’ll experience the entire process from start to finish: washing and spinning the wool, dyeing it naturally, and weaving your own small piece — all with the warm, personalized guidance of the local weaving cooperative, facilitated by the Aula team. You’ll also enjoy a home-cooked lunch with the community and learn about their stories, customs, and way of life. It’s a truly special day — the kind of meaningful connection most travelers don’t often get to experience.
Open to all ages and all levels! Just let us know if you’re traveling with a child so we can prepare accordingly.
Workshop duration: Full day (approx. 7 hours), including roundtrip transportation and lunch
Minimum occupancy: 2 guests
Meals included: Local Lunch.
NATURAL DYE WORKSHOP
We’ll start the day with a hearty breakfast before heading out on a scenic drive to the shores of Lake Piuray.
Nestled in a peaceful village and framed by the breathtaking peaks of the Andes, the Pumaq Wasin workshop is dedicated to preserving and sharing the ancestral art of natural dyeing — using native plants and traditional techniques passed down through generations in the Cusco region.
To begin the experience with intention, the women of the community invite guests to take part in a short offering to the spirit of Laguna Piuray, giving thanks for the plants, water, and fibers that make this beautiful craft possible.
Then, spend the morning with the Pumaq Wasin dye masters, learning how to identify local dye plants, process them using ancestral methods, and create a range of vibrant, all-natural colors. It’s a hands-on, heart-centered experience rooted in nature, tradition, and connection.
