Nestled in the heart of the Andes Mountains, this picturesque town is often referred to as the "Switzerland of South America." With its stunning landscapes, towering peaks, and crystal-clear lakes, Huaraz is sure to leave you in awe.

Upon your arrival, we will pick you up from the airport and take you on a scenic drive towards Huaripampa, where our lodge for the next 9 days is located. As you journey through the breathtaking scenery, you'll begin to understand why Huaraz is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts alike.

Santa Cruz Lodge is located 2 hours from Huaraz, nestled in the picturesque foothills of Huascarán National Park, next to the stunning Santa Cruz Trek. The lodge serves as an oasis of tranquility and sustainability amidst the region's breathtaking natural beauty.

Today we start our adventure with a hike that starts from Santa Cruz lodge to Pampacocha Lake. We'll traverse diverse landscapes, from agricultural fields to eucalyptus forests, all while enjoying stunning views of the nearby snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera Blanca. Along the way, we'll also visit the Uchcuounta Viewpoint, offering a glimpse into the area's ancient history as an administrative and control center.

We'll paddle on the lake, enjoying the peaceful surroundings, followed by a relaxing picnic. In the evening, we'll return to the hotel for relaxation and dinner by the fire.

This morning, after a 2 hours drive, we'll embark on an acclimatization hike to Laguna Hualcacocha, a hidden gem nestled in Huascarán National Park. Unlike its more famous counterparts like Laguna 69 and Laguna 513.

Laguna Hualcacocha remains relatively unknown, offering a tranquil and untouched beauty, surrounded by the stunning peaks of the Cordillera Blanca. The lake boasts a mesmerizing turquoise hue.

Starting from the roadside in the Ulta Valley, the hike descends along a faint trail, leading to a flat grassy section overlooking the winding Ulta River (Quebrada Ulta). Despite its stunning beauty, Laguna Hualcacocha remains off the beaten path, making it a peaceful retreat for those seeking a more serene experience amidst the splendor of the Andes.

We begin our day with a hearty and nutritious breakfast at Santa Cruz Lodge before embarking on a scenic drive through the Callejón de Huaylas and into Huascarán National Park. Along the way, you'll pass by the stunning turquoise Llanganuco Lakes and cross the Portachuelo, the Llanganuco Pass (4785m/15698.82ft) .

Descending to Vaqueria (3700m/12139.11 ft), the starting point of the trek, our team will load our equipment into mules. We will embark for about 5 hours hiking, with plenty of opportunities for memorable photo stops. along a gently ascending path to our campsite in the Paria Valley at 3890m/12762.47ft.

Today's trek offers a glimpse of local shepherds and farmers, showcasing their traditional methods of working the land. The snow-capped peaks of Chacraraju (6112 m / 20,052 feet) and Taulliraju (5830 m / 19,127 feet) stand majestically in the distance.

Today's trek is challenging. We begin with a gradual ascent for about 4 hours, followed by a steep climb lasting one hour to reach Punta Union Pass ( 4750m/15584). From the pass, we are treated to breathtaking views of the towering peaks of the Cordillera Blanca, including Nevado Taulliraju, Pucajirca, Rinrijirca, and Artesonraju, among others. The panoramic vistas down into the Santa Cruz Valley are simply stunning.

We will also have views of the peaks of Quitaraju, Artesonaju, and Rinrijirca, as well as the Ichiccocha and Jatuncocha lakes. We will spend the night at Taullipampa (4180m / 13,713 ft)

This morning, our journey continues through the Santa Cruz Valley, where we'll pass by the Arhuaycocha side valley, offering spectacular views of snow-covered peaks, with the magnificent Alpamayo Mountain once voted as the world’s most beautiful mountain.

We'll begin our descent along the Santa Cruz Valley, a gradual journey that allows us to soak in the stunning scenery. The trail winds through the valley, revealing a landscape of rugged beauty, with rocky outcrops and lush greenery lining our path. Each step offers a new perspective, a new vista of the breathtaking natural world around us.

We'll take our time until we finally arrive at our last campsite at Llamacorral (3750m/12303.15ft). This leg of the trek is expected to take approximately 7 to 8 hours, a fitting conclusion to another day of exploration and discovery in the Cordillera Blanca.

On the last day of our trek, we will hike down all the way back to our lodge, the same cozy retreat where we spent the night before embarking on this unforgettable adventure. The trail will lead us through a variety of landscapes, showcasing the beauty of the region one last time before we conclude our journey.

Along the way, we will bid farewell to our dedicated crew of muleteers, whose hard work and support have been essential in making this trek a success.

After a refreshing shower, we will indulge in a well-deserved dinner.

After a restful night at the lodge, we'll spend the day exploring the enchanting biodynamic orchard. This unique space embodies sustainable agriculture, embracing ancient methods to cultivate its diverse array of plants.

Stroll through the orchard, where each plant tells a story of local tradition and cultural significance. Learn about the planting and harvesting practices that sustain this ecosystem, and immerse yourself in the natural rhythms of the surroundings.

For those seeking relaxation, the gardens offer a tranquil retreat to unwind and absorb the breathtaking views. Alternatively, you can relax in the cozy living room, savoring the lodge's signature drinks while soaking in the serene atmosphere.

Later, for lunch, we'll experience the magic of Pachamanca, an ancient feast that honors the earth and its bounty. This traditional dish is prepared in two ways: in a pot and in the earth. The earth version involves creating a stone oven, heating it for two hours, and then burying it with all the ingredients for another two hours. This unique cooking method underscores the deep connection between nature and local gastronomy.

Pachamanca is a celebration deeply rooted in local culture, often associated with significant events like potato harvests or festive occasions. At Santa Cruz Lodge, offers an authentic Pachamanca experience, allowing you to savor the flavors and traditions of Hualyno folklore.

After a delightful day of relaxation and indulging in a feast of flavors, we'll settle in for a restful night's sleep.
